As probably every other bookworm I cannot resist a challenge. The Peter Boxall’s “1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die” is one of the most extreme. Well, not really extreme: I happen to read around 250 books a year; mostly because I do not have any private life and my job as graphic designer allows me to listen to audiobooks for at least 7-8 hours a day.

The list, updated several times (2006, 2008, 2010, 2012), is actually 1305 books long. I have it alphabetized by title thanks to Listology.

So far I’ve read 86 of them; part of them in original, part translated into Polish. Just so you know, there are some Polish books on this list, and they’re all worth your while, as I’ll try to prove in a couple of weeks.

For me the list has couple of issues; of course I appreciate that nothing on lists like this one is objective. I could do without Paulo Coelho, I could do without Marquis de Sade; I could very well do with Susanna Clarke’s “Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell”, and some Pratchett. Or Shakespeare. Why is there no Shakespeare?

Anyway I’ve marked the books I’ve read in bold, just like any other random person doing this challenge.
